Golf fitness with Christopher Smith. I've been playing golf for about 10 years and have managed to get my handicap down to 3. I can't promise that being fit will improve your golf but it will certainly improve your ability to play at your best for an entire round.
So why not get fit and play as well as you can.
Golf and exercise are my two biggest passions so it only made sense for me to work in an area that I have an interest in. Being a golfer myself I know what a golfer needs and wants in an exercise program. I am completing post graduate studies at the University of Newcastle conducting research into golf-specific strength and conditioning. I have received training from world renowned golf physiotherapist Ramsay McMaster and Scott Williams the AIS golf program strength and conditioner.
It is my mission to provide a professional service to golfers of all abilities and ensure that they receive the best training possible that is based on solid research and assist them to reach their personal golfing goals.

What is Golf Fitness?
Physical conditioning has been an integral part of performance development in just about every sport. However this has not been the case for golf, but there is a shift in the way golfers are now training to improve their performance. Tour professionals such as Tiger Woods, Camilo Villegas, Stuart Appleby and many more all include physical conditioning as part of their weekly schedule.
With the technological development in golf clubs and balls, golfers of all levels are hitting the ball straighter and further, but technology will only get you so far. To really progress your game to the next level it is important to develop efficient and consistent swing mechanics.
A well conditioned body assist with developing more efficient swing mechanics, because the body has the ability to accomplish the highly unorthodox and dynamic movements of the golf swing more effectively.
The golf swing is a highly dynamic movement that requires specific levels of strength, power, flexibility, balance and muscular coordination. Golf-specific training aims to enhance these factors.
Where it differs from traditional strength and conditioning, is that it targets the muscles and movements that are specific to the action of the golf swing. This means that the adaptations gained through training are directly and more effectively transferred to the golf swing itself.
Golf-specific fitness is not just for elite amateur or professional golfers, it is for absolutely everyone both young and old. The beauty of golf-specific training is that it is tailored to suit the individual’s needs and wants.
Not only will golf-specific training assist your golf swing, but it will assist in injury prevention and ensuring longevity in the game we all to play. Golf-specific training is no different to traditional exercise in that it will increase your fitness and health levels, meaning that it is a good lifestyle choice with the added advantage that it aims to enhance your golf performance.
